Climate Change or Global Warming is our planet heating up.
Did you know that the earth has warmed 1 degree celcius in the last century.
Weather will become more extreme and unpredictable, some areas will get wetter
1. Burning Fossil Fuels
Over the past 150 years Industrialised countries have been burning large amounts of fossil fuels oil, coal and natural gas.
The gases that are then released into the atmosphere and act like an invisible blanket that traps the heat from the sun which then warms the earth. This is known as "The Greenhouse effect".
2. Farming
Did you know that cows eating habits contribute towards greenhouse gases.
When cows eat, methane gas builds up in their digestive system and this is release in the form of a - FART, How Funny !!!!!
Just think about how much methane gas is being released by cows when there are approximately 1.5 billion cows releasing gas into the atmosphere.
3.Deforestation
Forests absorb huge amounts of Carbon Dioxide - a greenhouse gas from the air and release oxygen back into it.
Trees are chopped to make wood, palm oil, farmland, roads, oil, mines and dams
How will Climatr Change affect the planet?
Due to increased human activity over the past 150 years, there has been
- an increase in the amount of harmful gases.
- an increase in rainfall
- changing seasons
- shrinking sea ice
- increasing sea levels
- People who grow food will have to factor in all of the effects of Climate change
How can we decrease our Carbon Footprint ?
By making small changes in our lives we can start decreasing our Carbon Footprint
- switching off the lights
- walking instead of driving
- turning off electrical items
- Finding other sources of energy
The following are some of the powerpoints on Climate Change done by 6P students
